Duty cycle

From HvWiki

Duty cycle describes the ratio of on/off time of a signal or device so that the duty cycle ranges from 0 when there is no activity to 1 when there is maximum activity.

duty cycle D = \frac{\tau}{T} \

where

  • D is the duty cycle
  • τ is the duration that the function is non-zero
  • Τ is the period of the function

The duty cycle of a square wave is 0.5. Multiply by 100 to get the ratio in percent.
