Linux
From HvWiki
A flexible open source operating system, used by large corporations and home users around the world. The original Linux kernel was created by Linus Torvalds. Linux is often used in servers, and less frequently, in home computers. Because Linux differs greatly from other, more popular operating systems, new users often run in to trouble using Linux, and may even give up entirely. However, due to the open-source nature of Linux, there are many mailing lists, forums, chat rooms, and FAQs where a new user can seek help.
Linux is released under the GNU General Public License, meaning that it is free to use, and users are free to make changes to the source. Some distributions are available in stores and online for a small fee, which typically earns you a nice box, a manual, access to updates, and some amount of technical support. Many other distributions are available to download and install for free. A great source of information on Linux is available at http://www.linux.org
