The delta function is used in a lot of fields so I thought it deserved its own page.

Just for future reference: I plan to break up the page on electrostatic boundary value problems into smaller sections.. I hadn't got around to it yet.... You are quite correct Simon...you just jumped the gun on me!
However, since it forms part of the discussion on three-dimensional field problems (specifically discusses the need for multidimensional delta functions), I would like this particular article to be in the EM category (hope you don't mind). If you like, why not expand the discussion on derivation and mathematical properties for an article in the General Science category? Bill 09.34 CEDT 30 Aug 2005.
I might reference the delta function page in, say, an article on Fourier. I'm not sure why it needs to be in the EM category, rather than just linked from it.

I suppose if you want to put this article in General science, go ahead.. It would be good to expand it a little to include the derivation and properties (like sifting, fourier & laplace transforms, sampling, etc..)

Yes, I'll add some of the properties in sometime. I'll also do a "relatives of delta" page, such as shah (infinite delta train) and impulse pairs, or maybe that should be on the same page. Any thoughts? --Simon 19:16, 31 Aug 2005 (EDT)
My feeling is to put in some of the basic properties of the delta function in this page. Perhaps doublet functions (derivatives of delta functions) could be useful. Bill 10.50 (CEDT), 1 Sept 2005
